Introducing Our New Captains

We would like to introduce our new captains:

Club Captain- Jamie Pontin (H’cp 2.6)

I started my golfing journey aged 8 at Hollingbury Park Golf Club, in my time there I represented the club at all levels. After 25 years I decided to leave and join East Brighton which turned out to be a blessing, I’ve been at the club for 5 years now and have made some great friends and look forward to making more in the coming months. By trade I’m a Commercial Floor Layer, which allows me to travel the UK, I’ve had the pleasure of playing some of the most beautiful courses. My wife Victoria and little girl Evie Rose will be at the club throughout the year to support me, if you see us please come over and say hello.

My chosen charity is the Martlets who provide the very best care and support to the terminally ill in Brighton & Hove and surrounding areas. Patients can receive expert care from trained staff in their own homes or outpatients can visit the hospital for pain relief and practical advice. They also have an 18 bed inpatient unit for end of life care.

Lady Captain- Christine Hunt (H’cp 18.4)

I started playing golf in 2004 after retiring from 35 years of playing hockey. I joined a starter group of ladies at Peterborough Milton Golf Club, where I eventually played with my late husband in mixed events. Playing golf after belting a ball playing hockey was not easy but I stuck at it. I joined East Brighton in August 2021, after seeing how friendly everyone was. I’m now retired having worked in banking, and management roles at a school and leisure facility. I have two children – one in London and one in Brighton and a two year old grandson who keeps me busy.

My chosen charity is the Brain Tumour Trust. After losing, my husband to a brain tumour at Christmas 2014, I found out that the research for this is very under funded compared to other cancer charities. Therefore, I want to help raise money for more research in memory of my husband.

Senior Captain- Brian Coomber (H’cp 20.1)

I started me golfing journey about 30 years ago. The first club I played at was Pyecombe. I then joined Hollingbury Park, where I received my first official handicap in 2018. I’ve been at East Brighton for about 3 years now. I enjoy playing both social and competitive golf. I’m a taxi driver and foster career. I look forward to being the Senior’s Captain and hope I will do a good job, with many laughs along the way.

Junior Captain- James Lowrie (H’cp 5.8)

I am very proud to be able to represent the club as junior captain. I have loved golf ever since I was introduced to the sport and have been pushing myself over the past few years to be the greatest I can be. In the past I have played many sports but golf is by far the greatest, I have made many new friends here and hope to make more. In the future, I hope to someday become a professional golfer and teach others to bring out the best in themselves.

Wishing them all the best for 2024
